*we will provide light before Christmas as cable cleared from port – Project Manager

The Afiesere Community, Ughelli North local government area, Delta state, has given the contractor (AAKs and Bros Nig. Ltd) handling the project Two weeks ultimatum to return to site and complete the TCN and federal government abandoned substation project or the community will take a decisive decision.

The protesters had lamented that the contractor has not shown any iota of seriousness towards the completion of the project, adding that Afiesere community has been experiencing power outage over the years following the failure of the contractor to complete the project.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, the President General, Afiesere Community, Mr. Luke Umukoro said the unseriousness attitude of the contractor can no longer be condone, hence they are embarking on this peaceful protest with this Twenty-One days warning to return to site or federal government reaward the contract.

Umukoro complained how a substation project that will give light not only to Afiesere community but to other neighbouring communities be abandoned by a contractor, stating that an oil producing community that has a flow station, a compressor station, gas station, a manifold and over 40 oil wells be suffering electricity.

Umukoro said the peaceful protest was to draw government attention to the abandoned project by the contractor (AAKs and Bros Nig. Ltd) and appealed to government to order the contractor to site since equipment needed for the project has been supplied, yet the contractor has not completed the job as promised.

The Youth Chairman, Mr. Ejotubu Erubure, Madam Josephine Ughellidoro, Mr. Joseph Ugbe said; “We have been suffering this light issue for years, an oil producing community can return to its past glory. We are begging the federal government through the ministry of power and energy to restore our light back.

When contacted the Assistant General Manager, Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Ughelli, Engr. Chukwuemeka Kenneth, who awarded the conteact to the company (AAKs and Bros Nig. Lmtd) said they are not owing the contractor, and do know why project is taking too long.

“What is left to procure is cable to do the wiring from those equipment into the control room and I do not think that the company (AAKS & BROS LMT), so l expected that the project ought to have been completed long before now.

The Project Manager, AAKs and Bros Nig. Lmt, Mr. Timothy Ogbebor when contacted assured the community of light before 25th December, 2025, saying that once the cables are cleared at the port and taken to the site, the project will not take more than a month.. “By his grace before Christmas.”
