Stop Demonizing Police, Recognize Their Sacrifice –. Udoka

By Henry Ubus

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Engr. Udoka Emmanuel Chika-dibie, has called on Nigerians to celebrate and appreciate the invaluable sacrifices of the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that they remain true friends of society despite widespread misconceptions.

According to him, the negative perception of law enforcement is largely due to the inability of many to realize that corruption exists across all sectors of society including the church, judiciary, military, politics, private and public service, as well as among the elite not just within the police.

He noted that within Delta State, the police have played critical roles in curbing terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery, while also rehabilitating areas once notorious for criminality such as Egbo Uhurie, Sapele Road, Otokutu, Ughelli, and Agbarho.

“The police are not angels but human beings like every other person in society,” he said.

Engr. Udoka further recalled a painful incident where three police officers were killed while on escort duty at Okoloba junction. Narrating the ordeal, he explained how the wife of one of the deceased officers, carrying a sick child, visited the Ekpan Police Station searching for her husband after losing contact with him. Her husband, who had promised to return home with drugs for their ailing child, never made it back.

He lamented that society often treats police officers unfairly: “Our society hates the police; they kill them millions of times before they die,” he stated.

Engr. Udoka, therefore, urged Nigerians to change their perception and join him in celebrating police officers, acknowledging their courage, sacrifices, and service to humanity.
