By Philip Onome

A top Ex-Agitators’ Leader and Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security, General Aroni Oputu, yesterday joined the Special Adviser on Presidential Amnesty, Chief Dennis Otuaro, to plead with Niger Delta youths to shelve the proposed protest against the Federal Government slated for Thursday August 1st, 2024.

Addressing journalists in a press briefing held in Warri, General Oputu who was also a one time Special Assistant to Ex-Governor Okowa on Security, insisted that only dialogue can achieve fruitful results in the present hardship bedeviling the country.

He expressed his belief that government is taking the right decisions in handling of the economy and insecurity but only needs more time to stabilise the country, warning that the proposed hardship protest might cause more harm than good to the economy if it was hijacked by hoodlums as indicated by security reports.

General Oputu, urged the people of Delta State to support the government instead of embarking on a protest that could escalate into violence and destabilise the country, adding the government should continue to put measures in place in reforming the economy for a better tomorrow. .

The Ex-agitators leader, however thanked the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, transforming the state in terms of infrastructural and Human capital development, noting that Deltans are proud of his administration and believe that he will do more for his people across the areas.

Furthermore, he commended the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Presidential Amnesty, Chief Dennis Otuaro for his Initiative in reforming the Amnesty programme, declaring that he is the right person in office.

He said; “Dennis Otuaro is one of the key men who joined in the struggle for the development of the Niger Delta region; therefore we wish to say that the federal government has made the right choice. Because apart for Kingsley Kuku, other Amnesty Coordinators didn’t perform at all. Otuaro knows the pains of the Niger Delta youths and he has demonstrated it by coming to visit stakeholders and youths of the Amnesty programme”.

“We hereby urge all ex-agitators in the region to work with Dennis Otuaro because he is part of us; and we believe he will do something for us. We are satisfied with his style of coordination and performance.” He added.

He however urged him (Otuaro) to do more for the Ex-agitators in the region and ensure that everyone benefits during his reign.
