Prof. Akaba: FMC Udu To Create 1,000 Jobs, Positioned As Hub For Medical Excellence

The long-awaited Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Udu has officially become a reality, with activities set to commence in earnest.
According to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of FMC Udu, Prof. Akaba Kingsley, who spoke with Journalists today Sunday 14/09/25 in Udu during the birthday celebration of Chief Engr Sylvester Bighoro reiterated that a verification exercise will hold between September 22nd and 25th, to be conducted by officials from the Federal Ministry of Health, the Budget Office, the Office of the Accountant General, Human Resources, and other relevant agencies.
Prof. Akaba disclosed that successful applicants will begin receiving official text messages from the 22nd, inviting them to participate in the process. He noted that close to one thousand staff members will be employed and absorbed, creating massive job opportunities for indigenes of Udu and beyond.
“This centre is not just another hospital it is being positioned as a hub of medical excellence and innovation, envisioned to drive medical tourism not only in Delta State but across Nigeria, and with time, to compete globally with institutions like John Hopkins Hospital and Manchester Hospital,” the CMD stated.
He explained that FMC Udu will focus on:
Providing world-class healthcare services
Driving innovative research and collaborations
Accessing international grants
Offering training and employment opportunities
Prof. Akaba emphasized that the hospital’s annual federal allocation and scope of operations surpass those of many local government areas, describing the project as a “historic landmark and a blessing to Delta Central and the state at large.”
He expressed profound gratitude to:

The FMC, he added, will officially commence operations from September 27th, 2025.
Prof. Akaba made this disclosure in Udu while addressing journalists during the birthday celebration of Chief Engr. Sylvester Bighoro.
“This is the beginning of something monumental for Udu, Delta, and Nigeria at large,” he declared.
