Oyibode Intervenes, Slashes Alleged Excessive Admission Fees At Otor-Udu Secondary School.
The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun(Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP FCIA has intervened decisively following allegations of excessive admission fees charged to newly admitted students of Otor-Udu Secondary School.
The intervention followed complaints by parents and guardians over the alleged collection of between ₦45,000 and ₦50,000 as admission fees, a development that sparked concern across the local government area. Upon receiving the reports the people-oriented council chairman acted swiftly by directing the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Udu Chapter, Comrade Johnbull Gbejegbe to investigate the matter and ensure the protection of the interests of parents and students.
After a meeting with the management of Otor-Udu Secondary School, the NUT Chairman reviewed and harmonized the approved admission fees for the new intake. The following charges were subsequently agreed upon as the official and payable fees:
Registration: ₦8,000
PTA Levy: ₦2,000
File and Student Handbook: ₦2,000
Chair: ₦15,000
Total: ₦27,000
The downward review of the fees has brought significant relief to parents and guardians many of whom had expressed strong reservations over the earlier charges. They commended the Udu Council Boss, Oyibode for his prompt and decisive intervention, describing it as a reflection of his proactive, responsive, and people-centered leadership style.
Stakeholders also lauded the council chairman for promoting transparency and accountability within public institutions, noting that his timely action has helped to restore public confidence in the administration of public secondary schools in Udu Local Government Area.
The Oyibode-led administration has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens from undue financial burdens and ensuring that access to quality education remains affordable for all.
