Oyibode Decries Moral Decline, Advocates for Discipline And Integrity In Education”

The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) today Wednesday 15/01/25 paid a familiarization visit to the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, High Chief (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP FCIA, at his office in Otor-Udu, the headquarters of Udu LGA. The delegation, led by Chief Dr. Ochuko Akpeme, National Vice President (South-South), and Dr. Rose Onajite, Udu Chapter Chairman, highlighted their commitment to fostering collaboration and addressing educational challenges in Delta State and Nigeria at large.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. Akpeme lauded the Chairman for his exemplary leadership and profound insights. “Your wisdom and dedication to the development of our communities inspire us deeply,” he said. Dr. Akpeme further emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting strong leadership. “Your remarkable achievements in Udu reflect your integrity and purpose-driven leadership,” he added, assuring the Chairman of NAPPS’ unwavering support in promoting educational development.

In his address, the Udu Council Chairman, Olorogun Oyibode expressed gratitude to the NAPPS leadership for their visit and used the opportunity to highlight a pressing concern—moral decline among today’s youth. He lamented the loss of traditional disciplinary practices, which once formed the bedrock of success.

“It’s shameful that we’ve reached a point where we can’t even correct our children properly. Back then, discipline was strict, and it shaped us,” High Chief Oyibode stated. He recalled how offenses in school were met with both school and parental discipline, a practice that instilled responsibility and hard work.

He criticized the growing trend of parents rushing to “special centers” to aid their children in cheating during examinations. “This moral decay is setting a dangerous precedent. We must return to the values that made us strong—discipline and hard work,” the Chairman said, urging parents and educators to work together in instilling integrity in the younger generation.

Dr. Onajite echoed the Chairman’s sentiments, calling for collective efforts to restore discipline and promote excellence in schools. She assured the Council of NAPPS’ commitment to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening education and moral values in the community.

The visit ended on a positive note, with both parties pledging to work together to foster progress and ensure the holistic development of children in Udu Local Government Area.
