Oyibode Calls for Equal Opportunities As World Marks International Day of The Girl Child.
As the world celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child today, Saturday, October 11, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun (Hon.) Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP, FCIA, has reiterated the urgent need to eliminate all forms of gender-based discrimination and ensure equal opportunities for girls in every sphere of life including education, health, leadership, and employment.
In a statement made available to his media unit, the Udu Council Boss emphasized that the era when people believed that a woman’s education should end in the kitchen is long gone. He urged parents and guardians across Udu and beyond to prioritize the education of their daughters, stressing that educating the girl child is key to building a more just and prosperous society.
Speaking on the theme for this year’s celebration, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” Oyibode commended the resilience, courage, and leadership of girls around the world who continue to thrive despite facing numerous global challenges such as conflict, climate change, poverty, and inequality.
He noted that girls possess the strength and creativity to drive positive change in their communities when given the right opportunities and support, adding that empowering girls is not just a moral obligation but a strategic investment in the future.
The Udu Council Chairman further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting gender inclusiveness and supporting initiatives that enhance the wellbeing and potential of young girls across the local government.
“Every girl deserves the chance to dream, to learn, to lead, and to make meaningful contributions to society. In Udu, we will continue to advocate for and support programs that uplift the girl child,” Oyibode stated.
The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11, serves as a global call to action to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face while highlighting their potential as agents of change in shaping a better world.
