By Philip Onome
In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to girl-child empowerment, the Oritsegbegbemi Maurice OjoEde Foundation (OMO Foundation), in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Warri Chapter, on Thursday, October 16, 2025, commemorated the International Day of the Girl Child at Ekpan Secondary School, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The event, which had the theme “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls in the Frontline of Crisis,” attracted an impressive attendance of over 800 female students from the host school. It was an inspiring and educative experience aimed at equipping the girl child with knowledge, confidence, and resources to lead change in society.
Participants were engaged in impactful sessions on menstrual hygiene, dental hygiene, entrepreneurship, and leadership, delivered by seasoned experts and motivational speakers. These sessions were designed to enhance the students’ awareness on personal health, self-confidence, and financial independence.
In a show of compassion and dedication to the welfare of young girls, the OMO Foundation distributed cartons of sanitary pads, writing materials, and other educational supplies to the students.
Speaking at the event, the Principal of Ekpan Secondary School expressed profound appreciation to the OMO Foundation and its partners for their thoughtful initiative, describing it as “timely and transformational.” She prayed for God’s continuous blessings upon the Foundation for its selfless service to humanity.
Similarly, the Head Prefect of the school lauded the organizers for their generosity and for inspiring the students with valuable life lessons that will remain indelible in their hearts.
The celebration reaffirmed the OMO Foundation’s unwavering commitment to promoting education, health, and empowerment among young girls, thereby nurturing future female leaders who will drive positive change in society.
