Oil Spill: Ministry of Environment parley with oil companies in Delta
The Delta State Ministry of Environment on Thursday, held a familiarization meeting with some Oil Companies in Delta to discuss the way forward on how to protect the environment.
The meeting was at the instance of the Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu , was held at the Goverment House Annex, Warri.
Asiuwhu, who spoke to journalists immediately after the meeting said the meeting was to afford him the opportunity to familiarize himself with management of the oil companies in the state.
He said the meeting was also to find out some of the challenges the oil companies have been facing in the course of carrying out their operations in the State.
He however, frowned at the situation whereby some of the oil companies do not involve the state government while carrying out oil spill cleanups, urging the oil companies to always work hand in hand with the state government whenever they have challenges.
He also said that the issues of illegal oil bunkering will soon be dealt with permanently.
Speaking at the familiarisation meeting, Mr. Samson Ekanem, HSE Regulatory and Compliance Coordinator, Chevron Nigeria Ltd, said their company has been cooperating with the ministry and will continue to cooperate to promote daily environmental activities.
In the same vein, Mr. Christian Odia, Platform Petroleum Limited HSSE,
Ogiedsoba Dennis, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator Environment NPDC OML 26, both said the familiarization meeting was a welcomed idea to enable the oil companies familiarize with the State Ministry Of Environment.
