NYCN Delta Commends Governor Oborevwori On Delta State Security Trust Fund
…Says Initiative Will Strengthen Safety, Youth Participation, and Public-Private Collaboration
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Delta State Chapter, has applauded the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency. Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, for the successful launch of the Delta State Security Trust Fund, describing the initiative as a visionary and strategic step toward ensuring lasting peace, safety, and socio-economic stability in the state.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Comr. Odiri Milton Sagboje, CLN, and the State Public Relations Officer, Comr. Henry Efetobor, the Council commended Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive security governance through public-private partnership, noting that the move aligns with the objectives of the MORE Agenda to build a safer, stronger, and advance Delta State.
The statement described the initiative as “a landmark policy action that institutionalizes accountability and sustainability in security management,” adding that the Fund would not only enhance the capacity of security agencies but also provide avenues for youth participation in peacebuilding and community surveillance.
“The launch of the Delta State Security Trust Fund marks a new dawn for security collaboration in our dear state, the Governor has demonstrated uncommon foresight by ensuring that the private sector, community leaders, and government agencies work in synergy to safeguard lives, property, and investments. The youths of Delta State are proud of this bold move and stand ready to play their part.”
The Council praised the Governor for rebranding the Operation Delta Hawk into Operation Delta Sweep, which now operates as a joint taskforce involving the military, police, DSS, and civil defence corps, noting that the synergy among security agencies had significantly improved the security landscape across the state.
The statement further commended the Governor’s decision to allocate 0.5 percent of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the Security Trust Fund, describing it as “a testament to responsible leadership and a demonstration of transparency and accountability in governance.”
Its praised the Governor’s commitment to utilizing Delta State’s quota in enlistments into national security agencies, an impressive initiative already yielding positive results through the ongoing efforts of the Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment in Military and Paramilitary Services, of which the NYCN is an active member. “Governor Oborevwori’s leadership continues to inspire confidence especially with institutionalizing a transparent Security Trust Fund and promoting youth inclusion in security enlistments, he has demonstrated a holistic approach to peace, development, and empowerment.”
It also hailed major private sector contributors such as High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), Chief John Oguma; Mr. Jim Ovia, and others whose active participation and generous donations further show confidence in the state’s leadership and development direction.
“The N10 billion donation from Tantita Security Services Limited is not only commendable but symbolic of patriotic partnership. It reflects the understanding that peace is a shared investment. We urge other corporate organizations and well-meaning Deltans to emulate this spirit of collective responsibility,” the statement added.
The statement further noted that the Security Trust Fund would enhance youth driven intelligence gathering and promote synergy between security agencies and community structures. “Youths are critical stakeholders in the security chain, and through the NYCN’s grassroots network across the 25 local government areas and the various Paramilitar/voluntary youth organizations(VYOs), we will support the implementation of all Gov. Oborevwori’s initiative by promoting civic vigilance, intelligence sharing, and awareness on community safety,” the council assured.
It reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the State Government, the Security Trust Fund Board, and relevant agencies to mobilize youth participation in security awareness, civic education, and peace advocacy campaigns across communities. “As the umbrella body of all youth organizations in Delta State, we will continue to stand as partners in progress with the government to advance peace, development, and inclusion,” the statement concluded.
