By Kelvin Ohoror
The President of the National Union of Isoko Students (NUIS) World-wide Comrade Goodness Okudo has said that education is the template to build a better future in an era of social media and quick wealth syndrome during the Isoko Educational Summit organized by the union.
She made this known while speaking to newsmen during the Isoko Educational Summit held at the Delta State University, Engineering Faculty, Oleh, Campus with a theme; The Place of Education In The Age of Social Media And Quick Wealth Syndrome.
According to her “for any society to become better and transformed, the students who are seen as the hope of the future must have sound education and developed mindset.”
Comrade Okudo asserted that “One major means to achieving this is via education, where appropriate competences, skills and abilities are developed, horned and tested.”
She added that “The Isoko Education Summit will seek to renew our collective commitment to education and lifelong learning as a pre-eminent public good.
“First, we must develop the student ́s capacity for learning the fundamental building blocks of knowledge that we usually sum up as literacy, numeracy, and scientific thinking. These are essential to develop critical thinking and for our capacity to distinguish valid and well-supported arguments from mere opinions or – worst – from fake, invalid or unsubstantiated arguments.”
Continuing, “education is critical for the capacity to learn and re-learn through life and the skills for the changing world.”
Earlier on the chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council Hon. Friday Ovoke Warri who graced the event called on participating students from various secondary schools to focus on their education and be steadfast to become the best, stating that education is never a scam but key to a better future.
