Markets Causing Congestion To Face Closure In Udu
In a bid to address the growing issue of traffic congestion across various areas in the Udu Local Government Area, the Local Government Executive Committee has issued a stern directive aimed at curbing trading activities that obstruct the free flow of traffic.
The decision was reached during an executive meeting held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, and mandates an immediate cessation of road-trading activities in markets notorious for causing traffic disruptions. These include Jigbale, Ubogo, Express Junction, Orhuwhorun, Ujevwu, Agbaire, Emedjor, and other areas with similar issues.
The directive explicitly warns that failure to comply will lead to the outright closure of the affected markets by the Udu Local Government Council.
“All market operators are advised to comply strictly with this directive to avoid penalties, including the closure of their market spaces,” said Hon. Andrew Ekwetafia Gbise JP, Secretary to the Udu Local Government Council, in an official statement.
This move is aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement, enhancing public safety, and maintaining orderliness within the council area.
Market traders and stakeholders are urged to cooperate fully with this directive to avoid enforcement actions by the council.
