Jaro Egbo Outlines Major Progress In Healthcare, Security, and Education Ahead of 100 Days In Office.
By Henry Ubus
The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, has outlined the significant achievements of his administration ahead of his first 100 days in office. In a recent address during a visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Egbo highlighted key developments in healthcare, education, security, and environmental renewal, reiterating his administration’s commitment to progress and transparency.
Healthcare Improvements
Egbo revealed that upon assuming office, he conducted an inspection tour of health centers within the local government area and noted the dilapidated condition of some facilities. In response, his administration has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern cottage maternity health center, fully equipped with state-of-the-art amenities at the council’s headquarters.
Educational Initiatives
Emphasizing the importance of education, Egbo announced that his administration, in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has initiated plans to upgrade primary school facilities and provide teacher training. He reported that N25 million saved from internally generated revenue is being utilized to supply school uniforms, notebooks, and desks for pupils within the area.
Security Measures
Addressing the security challenges faced when he took office, Egbo organized a zonal security meeting with neighboring councils, Ughelli South and Udu, to devise strategies for peace and stability. Despite progress, he expressed sadness over the recent killing of the newly posted Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division, describing it as a tragic incident that underscores the need for continued vigilance.
Infrastructure and Renovation Projects
Egbo highlighted several infrastructure projects, including the renovation of the offices of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Leader of the Legislative Arm, to create a conducive working environment. Additionally, he announced the procurement of official vehicles for key offices and the press crew. On road infrastructure, Egbo stated that he is in discussions with Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to secure approval for a 20-kilometer road project in the next budget, urging residents to be patient as roadwork is planned for the dry season.
Environmental and Urban Renewal
In terms of environmental sanitation, Egbo reported progress, particularly at the Ughelli main market, where vendors have been relocated, and the area has been cleared of debris. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring cleanliness across the local government area.
Concluding his address, Egbo appealed to the media and residents of Ughelli North to support his administration’s efforts, emphasizing his dedication to building a stronger, more vibrant, and cleaner local government area.
The NUJ Chairman of Ughelli Chapel, Comrade Sunday Apah, commended Hon. Chief Jaro Omovudu Egbo for his outstanding leadership, particularly his efforts in healthcare, vehicle procurement, and security. Apah highlighted the positive impact of these initiatives on Ughelli North and appreciated Egbo’s inclusive approach, especially his partnership with journalists and his promise for the appointment of a representative from the NUJ. He urged Egbo to consider plans for the NUJ secretariat, stressing that collaboration could greatly benefit both the local government the Ughelli NUJ.
