Izeze Debunks False Reports: Says Oborevwori Transmitted Power.

In a swift clarification, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben has debunked rumors circulating about the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Orowhoedor Oborevwori, not transmitting power to the Deputy Governor during his vacation. Speaking in response to concerns raised by a friend, Comrade Izeze set the record straight, highlighting the Governor’s compliance with the constitutional requirements.

According to Comrade Izeze, the Governor officially transmitted the powers, duties, and responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor, Chief (Sir) Monday Onyeme, as stipulated by Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN). The transmission was confirmed through a letter read on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

The letter, as read by the Speaker, stated:

“I bring warm greetings to the Right Honourable Speaker and the members of the Delta State House of Assembly, and I wish to inform the Honourable House that I will be proceeding on a two-week vacation from Monday, 7th October 2024. In accordance with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), His Excellency, Chief (Sir) Monday Onyeme, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, shall perform the duties of my office as Acting Governor during the period of my leave.”

Consequently, the Deputy Governor assumed the role of Acting Governor effective Tuesday, October 8, 2024, and will continue in this capacity until the Governor’s return.

Comrade Izeze pointed out that this development highlights two key issues: the tendency for some to crave negative news and the need for individuals to address their biases before criticizing others. He noted that while some are quick to scrutinize the actions of the Delta State Governor, they remain silent on similar instances involving the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who left for a purported two-week working vacation without transmitting power to his Vice-President, in accordance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution.

The Governor’s experience, gained during his tenure as a lawmaker and as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly for six years, has equipped him to navigate such constitutional processes seamlessly. His administration’s commitment to upholding democratic principles and the rule of law remains steadfast.

Comrade Izeze also called on individuals who had previously circulated negative publicity stunts, including a recent skit by Sapele-based comedian Elo, to equally share this commendable demonstration of constitutional adherence by the Governor.

Delta State continues to progress under Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s experienced leadership. The administration remains focused on advancing democracy and ensuring the rule of law is upheld.
