Insecurity In Abraka: A Growing Threat To National Peace
By Moses Darah
May 30, 2025
The security situation in Abraka, Delta State, is indeed alarming, with rising cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and drug abuse. Residents are living in fear, and local economic activities have been crippled due to the insecurity. The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Government of Delta State are urged to take swift action to address the situation.
Abraka’s diverse nature, comprising residents and students from across Nigeria, necessitates a collective effort to prioritise everyone’s safety and well-being. Given its reputation in the past as a peaceful town and university hub, it is essential for residents, authorities, and stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the current security concerns.
The ongoing protests in Abraka as a wake-up call for authorities to address the growing insecurity should be sustained. Residents, particularly the youths must continue to demand an end to kidnapping, armed robbery, and drug abuse in Abraka and environ.
Recently, the youths and women’s determination to end insecurity in Abraka is inspiring. Given the success of previous protests, such as the one for ‘Abraka needs roads’, collective protests can drive positive change. In a matter of urgency, the authorities should prioritise enhanced security measures and community engagement to address the underlying causes of insecurity to restore peace and stability in Abraka.
