INEC Denies Releasing 2027 General Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false and misleading reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued on Friday, INEC clarified that no timetable has been published for the 2027 polls, stressing that any such information circulating in the public space did not emanate from the Commission.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election,” the statement read.

INEC emphasized that it operates strictly within the provisions of the law, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.

“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” the Commission stated.

The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.

INEC further noted that when the timetable is eventually released, it will be communicated through its established and verified channels to ensure accuracy and transparency.

The Commission urged members of the public and the media to disregard the fake reports and rely solely on INEC’s official platforms for credible and authoritative information.

The statement was e-signed by Mr. Adedayo Oketola, Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman.
