Member representing Urhobo nationality on the Board of DESOPADEC, Hon. Oghenekaro Goru has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; Chairman, Board of DESOPADEC, Chief John Nani and the MD/CEO, Chief Festus Ochonogor for the massive ongoing intervention work of de-silting of drainages and clearing of canals by the Commission and the State Ministry of Environment aimed at storm water flood control in the Commission’s mandate areas.
Hon. Goru gave the commendation on Wednesday 23rd of August, 2023, during an inspection visit to the ongoing work on Owhase Road drainages at Owhase community, Udu Local Government Area.
He said the ongoing massive intervention by DESOPADEC has proven that the Governor’s M.O.R.E agenda was steadily on course.
“I commend our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for this massive sanitation exercise across DESOPADEC mandate areas and I also thank my Chairman, Chief John Nani and MD/CEO, Chief Festus Ochonogor for their swift efforts in the ongoing exercise,” he said.
Also, while addressing community representatives, he urged them to sensitise the people in the area against reckless and indiscriminate dumping of wastes and blocking of drainages, noting that it would save the Government scarce resources if they could keep the environment clean, noting that DESOPADEC may not continue to intervene all the time as it has other pressing assignments other than this.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Francisca Atiga, Director of Sanitation at the State Ministry of Environment who took the Board Member round the drainage site, said both sides of the drainage system were constructed to carry water from Owhase roundabout to a discharging point at Owhase River and advised residents to register with PSP, waste collectors in order to dispose their wastes at approved designated sites to avoid silting the drainages.
Mr. Solomon Oshevire, community representative, also thanked the Board Member and the entire DESOPADEC Management for the laudable intervention work at Owhase community in Udu and other mandate areas.
