By GABRIEL CHOBA

In a passionate appeal to her constituents, Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the distinguished member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called on all eligible residents to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mrs. Ibori-Suenu emphasized the critical importance of this registration, pointing out that it serves as the foundational step for every citizen’s right to vote and be voted for in upcoming elections. She reminded the people that while they did not choose the country of their birth, they hold a sacred responsibility to actively contribute to the nation’s democratic development by ensuring they are duly registered voters.

Highlighting efforts underway to boost registration, the lawmaker disclosed that town criers have been mobilized to create widespread awareness in rural communities.

Additionally, she confirmed that INEC has been urged to extend its services to these often hard-to-reach areas to facilitate convenient registration. For urban populations, social media platforms and civil society organizations are being leveraged to spread the message and encourage participation.

Mrs. Ibori-Suenu also addressed specific groups often overlooked, including individuals who have recently changed their places of residence and those who have lost their voters’ cards. She assured that the ongoing exercise encompasses these categories, stressing the need for them to visit the nearest INEC office promptly.

The lawmaker cautioned that the current registration period may not be extended, making immediate action imperative for all eligible voters across Ethiope Federal Constituency. This proactive initiative is expected to strengthen democratic engagement and enhance representation in the region’s political process.

As voting remains a vital civic right and registration a cornerstone civic duty, Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu’s clarion call underscores the urgent need for all citizens to participate actively in shaping the future of their constituency and nation.
