Delta Taskforce On Environment Cracks Down On Illegal Trading, Waste Dumping At PTI/Osubi Junction.
The Delta State Taskforce on Environment has issued a strong warning against indiscriminate waste disposal and illegal trading activities around the ongoing mega flyover construction, at the PTI Junction/Osubi axis in Uvwie Local Government Area.
As part of its intensified enforcement operation carried out today, Tuesday, 18th November 2025, the Taskforce cleared traders operating on the drains, walkways, major roads, and other restricted areas around the construction site. The operation, supervised by the Taskforce Coordinator, Comrade Frank Orogun, was aimed at preventing disruptions to the ongoing work by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.
Chairman of the State Taskforce, Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu JP, commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for the massive infrastructural development taking place across the state, particularly the PTI/Osubi flyover project.
He emphasized that no activity capable of obstructing or slowing down the construction process would be tolerated.
Chief Asiuwhu explained that the ongoing enforcement was intended to ensure a conducive working environment for construction workers, enhance public safety, improve traffic flow, and enforce environmental and traffic regulations.
During the exercise, traders who had encroached on the construction areas displaying goods on the roads, walkways, adjoining spaces, and unauthorized parks were removed. According to Comrade Orogun, such activities routinely obstruct traffic, endanger pedestrians, and make the work environment unsafe for both motorists and Julius Berger personnel.
He lamented that some traders had turned the newly constructed drain at PTI Junction into a refuse dump, leading to littering, environmental defacement, and blockage of the drainage system. The Taskforce promptly cleared the blocked drains as part of its operation to restore proper sanitation.
Security officials at the site also reported that traders’ umbrellas and stands often obstruct their line of sight, posing security risks and endangering workers.
Meanwhile, a resident identified as Mr. Ovie, who spoke during the exercise, commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Taskforce Chairman for their commitment to keeping the environment clean and supporting the progress of the flyover project.
He condemned the illegal trading activities that contribute to waste dumping and environmental abuse.
Chief Asiuwhu therefore urged all traders and operators of unauthorized bus stops within the construction corridor to desist immediately. He warned that anyone who violates the directive would face the full weight of the law.
The Taskforce reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment across Delta State.
