Delta State Taskforce Raises Awareness in Sapele Zone & Environs
In a concerted effort to promote environmental consciousness and compliance with regulatory laws, the Delta State Taskforce on Environment, led by Chief Godspower Asiuwhu JP, descended upon Sapele Local Government Area and its environs today, May 4, 2024, for an extensive sensitization campaign.
Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Chief Godspower Asiuwhu JP, the Delta State Taskforce on Environment has embarked on a mission to educate and enlighten residents of Sapele and its neighboring communities about the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. This initiative aligns closely with the MORE Agenda championed by the administration of the Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasizing the crucial role of environmental stewardship in ensuring the well-being of all Deltans.
The awareness campaign, which kicked off today, aims to educate citizens about relevant environmental regulatory laws and the implications of non-compliance. Chairman Asiuwhu initiated this educational drive upon assuming office, recognizing the need to empower Deltans with knowledge that will enable them to lead cleaner, safer, and healthier lives.
Comrade Kingsley Iweka Odiaka (Mnim), Head of Operation for the Taskforce, led the team of dedicated/dutiful officials in disseminating vital information to residents.
He underscored the significance of cleanliness in realizing the MORE Agenda’s objectives of safeguarding public health and prolonging life expectancy.
Furthermore, he emphasized that ignorance of the law is not an excuse, hence its is imperative for residents to heed the counsel and regulations set forth by the government.
The campaign comprised various outreach activities, including community meetings, door-to-door engagements, and distribution of informational materials. Residents were enlightened on best practices for waste management, pollution prevention, and the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations.
The sensitization team toured various markets and streets of sapele and its environs cautioned those trading under high tension, along the roads and streets to desist from it.
In his remarks, Comrade Kingsley Iweka Odiaka urged Sapele residents and environs to seize the opportunity presented by the campaign and actively participate in efforts to enhance environmental sustainability.
He reiterated the Taskforce’s commitment to supporting communities in their quest for a cleaner and healthier living environment.
