Delta State Security Aide Dismantles Illegal Checkpoint in Opete Community
The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security, Engr. Emmanuel Udoka, has taken decisive action against alleged extortion and assaults perpetrated by the Opete Community Vigilante group.
On Monday, January 26, 2025, Engr. Udoka responded to numerous complaints from commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders), tricycle operators (Keke riders), and residents of the Opete community. The complaints revolved around repeated incidents of extortion and harassment by the local vigilante group.
Acting swiftly, Engr. Udoka drove unannounced to the community, where he reportedly witnessed the forceful collection of money at a checkpoint mounted by the vigilante group near Offshore Hotels. In an immediate response, he dismantled the illegal checkpoint.
The security aide has further directed the President General (PG) of the community to call the vigilante group to order, warning of strict consequences if such acts persist.
“Should there be a repeat of what I witnessed today, I will ensure those involved are arrested and prosecuted,” Engr. Udoka stated.
Residents and stakeholders in the area have applauded the prompt intervention, expressing hope that this action will restore sanity and protect the rights of citizens within the community.
