Delta State Government Condemns Multiple Taxation, Calls For Unified Environmental Safety Approach

The Delta State Government has raised concerns over the widespread issue of multiple taxation and extortion plaguing market traders, condemning these illegal practices for exploiting vulnerable citizens and posing significant threats to public safety.
This concern was voiced by the Chairman of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Hon. Godspower GodspowerOmafuvwe AAsiuwhu, during a recent familiarization visit to the Chairmen of Ika South and Ika North East Local Government Areas.

Chief Asiuwhu urged an immediate cessation of these activities, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced protections for traders and the general public. He noted that the current situation, if left unchecked, could undermine both economic stability and public health in the state.

During discussions with the local government chairmen, Hon. Asiuwhu highlighted the critical importance of fostering a robust partnership between the state taskforce and local government authorities. He stressed that such a collaboration is essential for driving meaningful development in the environmental sector, which in turn will contribute to creating a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Delta State.

In addition to addressing taxation issues, Hon. Asiuwhu underscored the necessity for improved environmental sanitation and hygienic practices within local communities. He pointed out that maintaining a clean environment is not just about aesthetics but is crucial for the overall health and well-being of the population, as well as for economic progress.

Responding to Hon. Asiuwhu’s call for collaboration, the council chairmen, Hon. Jerry Ehiwario of Ika South and Hon. Monday Odigwe of Ika North East, pledged their full support. They assured Hon. Asiuwhu of their commitment to work closely with the state taskforce to address these pressing issues effectively.

This strengthened alliance between the local councils and the state taskforce is seen as a significant stride towards safeguarding the welfare of Delta State’s citizens and advancing sustainable development initiatives across the state.
