Delta Born Akporunor Sets African Record For Most Push-Ups In 24 Hours
By Henry Ubus
Udu, Delta State – In a remarkable feat of endurance and determination, Moses Akporunor, also known as CENA, has set the record for the most push-ups completed by an African within 24 hours, achieving a total of 26,120 push-ups. The attempt took place at Kelvs Voltage Lounge in Udu Local Government Area on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
Akporunor, a 25-year-old second-year student of Theatre Arts and Media Studies at the University of Calabar, aimed to surpass the current Guinness World Record held by American Charles Servizio, who completed 46,001 push-ups in April 1993. Unfortunately, Akporunor’s attempt was hindered by a dislocated left shoulder, which occurred midway through the challenge. Despite receiving immediate attention from a traditional physiotherapist, the four-hour delay needed to fix his shoulder significantly impacted his performance.
Despite this setback, Akporunor’s achievement of 26,120 push-ups remains a monumental accomplishment, securing him the title of the African record holder for the most push-ups in 24 hours.
In a post-event interview, Akporunor expressed his gratitude and unwavering determination to attempt the world record again in the future. “I ventured into this challenge to inspire others and show that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible,” he stated. “I will not give up. I will attempt this again and aim to claim the world record.”
Akporunor extended his heartfelt thanks to his support team, particularly his pastor, F.O. Onobirorena, his manager, Mr. Wisdom Owhokevwo, Mr. Felix Togbanturi, and his dedicated media crew. He also acknowledged the unwavering enthusiasm of his supporters both within and outside Delta State. He specifically mentioned the vital role played by Aquafina table water and Monster energy drink in sustaining him throughout the grueling challenge.
Moses Akporunor’s incredible achievement serves as an inspiration to many, showcasing the spirit of determination and resilience. His story is a testament to the power of persistence and the support of a dedicated community.
