Cleaner Environment: Delta State Taskforce On Environment Restates Commitment To Cleaner Delta
The Delta State Taskforce on Environment, under the leadership of Chairman Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu JP, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more habitable environment across the state. This was announced during an interview on Delta Rainbow Broadcasting Service (DBS) in Warri on Monday, March 24, 2025.
In the interview, Madam Nkechi Amaraegbu, the Director of Administration for the Taskforce, explained that the agency’s core mission is to enforce environmental laws, ensuring cleanliness and long-term environmental sustainability throughout Delta State. She highlighted various critical violations that pose significant risks to public safety and urban order. These include the illegal dumping of refuse into drains, trading on top of gutters and roadsides, and trading under high-tension cables and electrical wires.
Madam Amaraegbu also expressed concern over land developers who contribute to environmental hazards by dumping sand and granite into drains, causing blockages that lead to flooding and other infrastructure challenges.
Commending the efforts of her boss, Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu JP, Madam Amaraegbu noted that he has been working tirelessly to ensure that the environmental goals align with the More Agenda of His Excellency, RT Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. She acknowledged the chairman’s dedication to fostering a cleaner Delta, making it a priority to address these violations in a bid to create a better living environment for residents.
Comrade Frank Orogun, Coordinator of Warri/Uvwie/Udu and Okpe, who accompanied Madam Amaraegbu during the interview, shared how the Taskforce handles its daily operations to ensure compliance with state laws. He pointed to the noticeable improvements in areas like PTI Junction, Refinery Market, Enerhe Junction, Ekpan Express Junction, Shagolor, and Jeddo, which now boast a cleaner, more organized appearance.
However, Comrade Orogun expressed frustration with some business owners and residents who refuse to engage the government-approved Waste Collectors, also known as the Private Sector Participant (PSP), for effective waste management. He urged the people of Delta State to take responsibility for their waste and support the government’s approved waste disposal systems.
The Taskforce continues to work diligently to promote environmental awareness and encourage the adoption of proper waste management practices to achieve a cleaner Delta.
