A prominent Chief in Udu Kingdom, Chief Adams Akpominigbo, has expressed strong support for the consensus choice of Michael Orugbo as the Ovie-elect of the Kingdom. In a recent interview with newsmen in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Akpominigbo emphasized the importance of maintaining peace among the people following this significant decision.
As the Uloho of Udu Kingdom, Chief Akpominigbo articulated that the endorsement of Chief Michael Orugbo by the Okporua Ruling House is a commendable decision made by the chiefs. He expressed his satisfaction that Chief Orugbo, after considerable appeals from the kingdom’s majority, accepted the opportunity to ascend the throne.
“The kingdom requires a prominent son, someone who is both comfortable and widely accepted, to honor the legacy of our forefathers,” he remarked.
“Our Ovie lives on. He has joined his ancestors, and Chief (Engr.) Michael Orugbo has been duly nominated by his ruling house (Okporua Ruling House) as the Ovie-designate. In our elaborate meeting, all community presidents, youth leaders, and other notable figures unanimously endorsed Engr. Michael Orugbo as our new king,” he stated.
Chief Akpominigbo underscored the seriousness of the kingship title, noting that it is not for everyone. He added that the nomination of Chief Orugbo is fitting and aligns perfectly with the aspirations of the community — stating, “There is no better choice than Chief (Engr.) Michael Orugbo.”
When asked about other candidates vying for the Ovie stool, Akpominigbo dismissed any rival aspirations, indicating that any efforts to introduce alternative candidates are illegitimate. He reiterated that Chief Orugbo is the true choice of the Udu people and, pending the completion of all necessary processes, he will be crowned as the Ovie of Udu Kingdom.
Chief Akpominigbo outlined his high expectations from Orugbo, affirming confidence that he will continue the positive legacy of the late HRM Patrick Delekpe. He urged the people of Udu to embrace peaceful coexistence, reinforcing that the best choice has emerged as their new king.
He provided reassurance for any community members who might feel disgruntled by the decision, encouraging them to join the celebrations as the kingdom prepares for Orugbo’s ascension following the mourning period.
Moreover, Chief Akpominigbo called on the people of Udu Kingdom to support Governor Oborevwori’s administration to enhance development in the area. He appealed to the governor to prioritize road construction in Udu Kingdom while also commending him for ongoing infrastructure projects across the state.
In conclusion, Chief Akpominigbo emphasized unity and collaboration among the people of Udu, reinforcing the notion that progress and development will follow when they work together.
