Delta State private hospital in Warri, Mount Horeb Clinic and Dialysis Centre has successfully completed its first kidney transplant, appealing to the Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for supports.

This major achievement no doubt marks the first time a private hospital in Delta state and other neighboring states have carried out such a successful kidney transplant in the region. .

The transplant performed by a team of surgeons and nephrologists, includes Dr. Raph Onyemekeihia, Dr. Henry Slater, Dr. Edema Great, Dr. Akporaye Akpomiemie, Nephrolosy Nurse, Mrs Vero Ebinum and the transplant coordinator, Dr. Jimoh Abdulmalik

Dr. Onyemekeihia had explained that the procedure was made possible through collaboration between the local ‘Warri Kidney Transplant Group’ and an experienced Indian surgeon.

The team’s goal is to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for kidney transplants, a process that was previously costly and stressful.

“Patients used to travel to Lagos, Abuja, India, or the UK for kidney transplants, which involved significant financial and logistical challenges, but now it is around us.

“To prepare, the group studied transplant procedures at several centers in India, Egypt, and Nigerian hospitals, and since 2018, they have gathered all necessary equipment, including a fully equipped ICU and twin operating theaters.

“The transplant aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE AGENDA, which aims to improve healthcare accessibility in Delta State.

“The 31-year-old patient, who has been suffering from renal disease, underwent the successful transplant on September 6, 2025, with the donor being a perfect match and no complications reported.

“This success marks a major advancement in organ transplantation for private hospitals in the region, paving the way for more kidney transplants and offering new hope for patients suffering from kidney failure.”

The group led by Dr. Raphael Onyemekeihia has called on the Delta State Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and other spirited individuals for support to ensure Deltans no longer traveled distance before seeking healthcare services and delivery.
