Ayoma Calls on Tinubu, Keyamu, Sheriff to Upgrade Osubi Airport, Says Osubi Is In Okpe Not Warri.

A public affairs commentator and multiple Chief, Chief Ayoma, who also serves as the Coordinator of Ejeben Foundation in Ughelli South, has called on the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, and the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to expedite action toward upgrading the Osubi Airport to international status.

Chief Ayoma made this appeal on Tuesday while boarding an Overland Airways flight at the Osubi Airport located in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State. According to him, the strategic importance of the airport to the region both economically and logistically makes the call for its elevation timely and justified.

He further expressed displeasure over the repeated misrepresentation of the airport’s location, especially during airline announcements.

“While I was waiting to board, I heard the United Nigeria Airways announcer at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos say, ‘Attention, we are about to depart for Osubi Airport, Warri.’ This is wrong. Osubi is not Warri. The airport is in Okpe Local Government Area, and proper recognition must be given,” Chief Ayoma insisted.

He emphasized that acknowledging the correct location is not only a matter of respect but also one of administrative accuracy and territorial identity.

Chief Ayoma argued that transforming the facility into an international airport would accelerate economic growth across Delta State and the Niger Delta region, enhance aviation access for travelers, support the booming oil and gas industry, and strengthen business connectivity across Warri, Effurun, Uvwie, Udu, Ughelli, and surrounding communities.

He specifically appealed to Hon. Festus Keyamo SAN a proud son of Uvwie to use his influence and office to champion the cause and ensure the airport becomes a major international aviation hub.

“With the rising passenger traffic and increasing economic activities around the airport corridor, Osubi deserves more than a domestic status. It is time for the Federal Government and the Delta State Government to work together and make this a reality,” he stated.

Residents and stakeholders across Delta State have echoed similar demands in recent years, calling for improved aviation infrastructure, expanded runway capacity, international flight routes, and enhanced aviation security and services.

Chief Ayoma concluded with a firm and passionate call to action:

“Let the world fly into Osubi directly. Let businesses thrive. Let Delta shine.”
