Asiuwhu: No Going Back on Demolition of Illegal Structures In Delta
The Delta State Government, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to protecting the interests and well-being of Deltans through proactive and people-centered environmental management strategies.
Speaking during a live program on Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, the Chairman of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Olorogun Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu, declared that the government will continue the removal of all unauthorized structures across the state as part of its comprehensive urban renewal and flood prevention efforts.
According to Olorogun Asiuwhu, illegal structures that obstruct water channels are a major cause of flooding in various communities. He emphasized that the taskforce has been mandated to enforce environmental laws and restore proper drainage systems to ensure unobstructed water flow.
“As a responsible government under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, we remain committed to safeguarding the interests and well-being of Deltans. All unauthorized structures must be removed to pave the way for the holistic development of our dear state and to prevent man-made flooding,” Asiuwhu stated.
He further commended the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo Ksc, for his proactive approach and exemplary performance in environmental sanitation and enforcement within his jurisdiction. Asiuwhu described Jaro Egbo’s commitment as a shining example of grassroots governance complementing state policies.
The Taskforce Chairman also appealed to residents and property developers to cooperate with the government by adhering strictly to urban development regulations and refraining from encroaching on designated waterways and public spaces.
The Oborevwori-led administration has consistently prioritized environmental sustainability as a core pillar of its MORE agenda, with the aim of building a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Delta State.
