Asiuwhu Calls for Environmental Sustainability on World Environment Day

In commemoration of World Environment Day, the Chairman of the Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Olorogun Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu JP, has reiterated the need for collective commitment to environmental sustainability across the state and beyond.

In a message made available to the press, Olorogun Asiuwhu stated:

“As we commemorate World Environment Day today, 5th June, I am honoured to join our Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro, Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Delta State, and all environmental stakeholders in advocating for environmental sustainability. Let us prioritize our environment for a better future.”

The Taskforce Chairman emphasized the urgent need to protect natural resources, promote cleaner cities, and implement policies that will secure a healthy environment for future generations.

He noted that under the leadership of the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and the direction of the Ministry of Environment, Delta State is steadily improving its environmental outlook through ongoing cleanup campaigns, awareness initiatives, and enforcement of sanitation laws.

“As Deltans, we must all take responsibility for our environment—be it through proper waste disposal, discouraging illegal dumping, tree planting, or supporting green initiatives,” Olorogun Asiuwhu added.

This year’s World Environment Day, themed “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”, aligns with the global push to rehabilitate degraded land and promote sustainable use of the earth’s ecosystems.

Olorogun Asiuwhu, popularly referred to as the “Street Governor” by admirers for his hands-on leadership style, urged communities, civil society organizations, and youth groups to rise to the challenge and be proactive in environmental conservation efforts.

He concluded by reaffirming the Delta State Government’s unwavering commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and healthier Delta.
