ASIUWHU AS A COMMISSIONER, MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, DELTA STATE.JULY 7 2022 – MAY 28 2023

Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu JP was inaugurated as a member of the Delta State Executive Council by the Executive Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa on Thursday 7th July 2022. Same day, his portfolio was handed over to him as Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Environment.

In preparedness to hit the ground running, Chief Asiuwhu was accompanied by his lovely wife, Chief Dcns (Mrs) Philo Omafuvwe Asiuwhu (JP), children, family members, friends, political associates and Clergy to assume, familiarize and also to dedicate his office and the entire Ministry to God Almighty.

Consequently in line with laid down rules, the permanent secretary, Dr (Mrs) Minne Oseji immediately handed over to him the headship of the Ministry, in order to achieve the mandate of the Ministry before May 2023.

The proactive commissioner visited all the agencies and the ministry annexe office in Warri, which was first of its kind as testified by the annexe staff.

He also carried out visitation of completed projects like the NEWMAP projects, Monitoring and evaluation of cleanliness of the State, inspection of integrated waste facilities, cycling hubs, and government approved dump sites.

The ministry has also embarked on vegetation control, fumigation of government quarters and public places, sensitization of disaster management, monitoring of sanitation exercise, visit to markets, and Delta State forest reserves across the state.

Also, he undertook the mechanical Desiltation of natural waterways and canals across the state, and tirelessly worked to make sure the communities affected by the last year flood were well taken care of in all the government approved IDPs camps and constructions of box culverts to create access for free flow of water through natural waterways and canals.

In his focus to foster collaboration & adherence to environmental principles, He held series of meetings with managements of Oil and Gas companies operating in Delta State, prompting the constitution of Delta State pollution, prevention and control committee in the ministry.

Chief Asiuwhu, even at the last lap of the administration, he successfully Flagged Off Tree Planting Exercise at Nelson Mandela Park in Asaba and Ubulu-Uku forest reserve, same exercise would be extended across the state.

Ministry of Environment has embarked on FUMIGATION EXERCISE in Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Area in Asaba, Delta State.

The fumigation exercise would also be extended to all the affected flood prone Local Government Areas in the state.

The Honourable Commissioner, due to the acknowledgement of his diligence to duty, assigned him with competency and administrative innovation. Has bagged so many Awards as follows : He was decorated as Fellow of the University of FUPRE Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), for Championing Environmental Best Practices in the State, FAHUF International Humanitarian Award , ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT 9141 Community Service Award , NTA Merit Award, FORWARD NEWS MEDIA Meritorious Service Award, ST. MARIA GORETTI OLD GIRLS ASSOCIATION, ASABA, Award of Excellence , Etc.

Chief Asiuwhu always raises the bar of performance wherever the position he finds himself of service , even though it’s a day.
He operates an open door policy & servant leader relationships with his subordinates.
Today, he has earned the nickname
‘ ENVIRONMENT MASTER ‘ to add the ones when he was a Special Assistant to Governor on Social media – “Mr Capacity” & Patani Local Government Area Party Chairmen ” Mr. Time keeper”
