APC Nomination Fees Contradict ‘Not Too Young To Run’ Law — NYCN Delta

The Delta State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), under the leadership of Comrade Sagboje Odiri Milton, CLN, has raised strong concerns over the cost of nomination forms released by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the official disclosure made during the party’s national convention at Eagle Square, Abuja, the NYCN described the fees as prohibitive and inconsistent with the spirit and intent of the Not Too Young To Run Act.

In a statement issued on Friday, Comrade Sagboje noted that while the landmark legislation was enacted to encourage greater youth participation in governance, the high cost of nomination forms effectively shuts the door against many young Nigerians who lack the financial capacity to compete.

According to him, “The essence of the Not Too Young To Run law is to dismantle systemic barriers and create a level playing field for young aspirants. However, the exorbitant fees attached to party nomination forms negate this objective and reinforce the very exclusion the law seeks to address.”

The NYCN Delta Chairman further urged political parties, particularly the APC, to reconsider and review the pricing structure of their nomination forms to reflect inclusivity, fairness, and democratic accessibility.

He emphasized that meaningful youth inclusion goes beyond legislative provisions and must be matched with practical steps that enable young people to actively participate in the political process.

Comrade Milton reiterated the commitment of the NYCN to continue advocating policies and reforms that promote youth empowerment and equitable representation in Nigeria’s democratic space.
