Amaechi’s Cock and Bull Tales: Norbert Chiazor Slams Former Minister Over Passport Ordeal

By Henry Ubus
Renowned Delta-born journalist and former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, has taken a swipe at former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent outburst on social media regarding his alleged mistreatment in Germany.
Amaechi had lamented that his Nigerian passport led to a 30-minute detention at a German airport, concluding with the now-viral line: “If you’re not ashamed, I am ashamed.” The statement has drawn sharp reactions from Nigerians, many of whom view it as hypocritical and self-serving.
In a strongly worded post shared on his social media platforms titled “Amaechi’s Cock and Bull Tales”, Chiazor dismissed the former minister’s lamentation as hollow and sanctimonious. He urged Amaechi to spare Nigerians the theatrics, describing his rhetoric as a failed attempt to gain public sympathy after losing relevance in national politics, particularly following his defeat in the 2023 presidential primaries.
“No infamy can be more ignoble than his retrograde, divisive antecedents in Nigeria’s democracy—especially against the Jonathan era,” Chiazor wrote.
He further questioned Amaechi’s sudden posture as a voice of the masses, stating:
“When did Amaechi become Wole Soyinka or Gani Fawehinmi, matador of the masses? A gilded elite pampered by common wealth cannot humour a hard-pressed hoi polloi.”
The veteran journalist added that those who have been beneficiaries of the Nigerian system should stop assaulting the sensibilities of suffering citizens with grandiloquent utterances.
Referencing Chinua Achebe’s famous words, Chiazor concluded,
“Those whom the spirits cracked their palm kernels must stop assailing the sensibilities of poor Nigerians
