Delta State Taskforce On Environment Apprehends Two for Illegal Waste Dumping
In the early hours of Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Delta State Taskforce On Environment apprehended two young men identified as Smiler and Berkison, for illegal dumping of refuse at two separate locations: one by Refinery Road opposite Floxy Hotel, and another at Sapele Road, opposite Hausa Market.
Upon their apprehension, & interrogation, by the Taskforce. It was revealed that Mr. Smiler is the owner of the truck indulged in the act of carrying people’s waste, and dumping same on any available empty land at sight.
It could be recalled that, The Chairman, State of the Taskforce on Environment, Chief Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu has emphasized the need importance of sensitizing residents and shop owners to refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal. This initiative aims to curb the environmental hazards posed by such actions and foster a cleaner, healthier living environment for all residents.
Furthermore, Delta residents have been strongly advised against patronizing cart pushers for waste disposal services. Instead, they are urged to utilize the services of the PSP (Private Sector Participant) assigned to their respective areas. Failure to comply with this directive may result in facing the full consequences of government enforcement.
This incident serves as a stern warning to all individuals involved in illegal waste disposal activities in Delta State. The government’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations remains unwavering, and offenders will be held accountable for their actions.
