Senator representing the Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Delta Central, defeating former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, by a wide margin.

The results of the primary election were announced by the Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, Barr. Nusa Amagbor, who disclosed that Senator Dafinone polled a total of 116,252 votes, while Senator Omo-Agege secured 3,643 votes.

Speaking while announcing the outcome of the exercise, Amagbor commended party faithful and stakeholders across Delta Central for their peaceful conduct during the primary election.

According to him, the exercise was conducted using the direct primary method, which the party has consistently adopted for elections in Delta State, including those for the Senate and House of Representatives.

“Party stakeholders in Delta Central, our proceedings here today have been peaceful, and we sincerely thank you all for your cooperation and orderly conduct throughout this exercise,” he stated.

Reacting shortly after his victory, Senator Dafinone expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for their confidence in him, describing the exercise as transparent, open, free and fair.

He noted that Delta Central remains a highly political environment and appreciated members of the APC for their support throughout the primary process.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank all those who supported me throughout our great party in achieving this victory today,” Dafinone said.

The lawmaker also extended an olive branch to his opponent, Senator Omo-Agege, urging unity among party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I also take this opportunity to call on Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to join forces with other members of our party to work for victory come 2027 for our party across all positions,” he added.

The outcome of the primary is expected to shape political realignments within the APC in Delta Central as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
