Ogbagah Holds Thanksgiving, Pledges Unity, Inclusive Leadership for Ughelli NUJ Correspondents Chapel

The ancient town of Ughelli was filled with celebration today Sunday, February 22, 2026, as the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Mathias Ogbagah, led colleagues, family members, friends, and well-wishers in a thanksgiving service to appreciate God for his emergence as chapel chairman.
The thanksgiving service was held at Transfiguration Anglican Church, Ekiugbo in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State
where journalists and dignitaries from all walks of life gathered in large numbers to celebrate with the NUJ Chairman.
While delivering his sermon, the Vicar in charge, Reverend G.O. Ehru (JP), stressed the need for Christians to live according to the Word of God, urging them to pursue purity, unity, and righteousness. He noted that adherence to biblical teachings remains the surest path to a fulfilled and purposeful life.
Speaking with journalists after the service, an elated Ogbagah said the thanksgiving was organized to appreciate God for His grace upon his life, especially following his successful emergence as chairman on December 11, 2025.
According to him, his administration will focus on inclusiveness, unity, and the development of the chapel.
“We are here today to thank God for what He has done for us. By His grace, the election was successful and we felt it necessary to return all glory to Him. My leadership is all inclusive; we will carry everybody along and work in unity to promote and develop the chapel beyond where we met it,” he said.
He added that his vision is to ensure that the Ughelli Correspondents Chapel remains vibrant and widely recognized as one of the most active chapels in Delta State.
Also speaking, Delta State NUJ Vice Chairman, Comrade Felix Ekwu, described the thanksgiving as timely, noting that leadership authority comes from God and that the successful election signaled the need for members to close ranks and support the new executive.
Veteran journalists present at the event included Comrade Felix Ekwu, Delta State NUJ Vice Chairman, immediate past Chairman of NUJ Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, Chief Sunday Apah; Comrade Shedrack Onitsha; Comrade Theophilus Onojegre; Comrade Henry Ubus, Chief Daniel Ekiugbo; Chairman of NUJ Sapele Chapel, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, Comrade Andrew Darah, Moses Omovevah, Comrade Omamuzo Afidhere, Comrade Karo Awodeha, Comrade Freedom Okpure. Other guests were: ACP Julius, Evangelist Nicholas Evwienure, Hon. Olotu Akpodiete, Mrs. Philo Wanogho, among others.
Guests were later entertained at Oil City Hotel, where the celebration continued in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
