ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: NYCN DELTA SALUTES FALLEN HEROES, COMMENDS OBOREVWORI ON YOUTH MILITARY RECRUITMENT DRIVE

AS Nigerians marked the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Delta State Council of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has paid glowing tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes, describing their sacrifice as the foundation of Nigeria’s unity, peace and continued existence.

In a goodwill message to commemorate the day, State Chairman of the Council, Comr. Sagboje, Odiri Milton, CLN, said the day was not just ceremonial but a moment of deep reflection on the courage, discipline and patriotism of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces who paid the supreme price in defence of the country.

He noted that the fallen heroes “stood firm in the face of danger and chose duty over life itself,” stressing that their bravery laid the groundwork for peace, democracy and national stability. He also lauded serving and retired military personnel for their continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country, often under extremely challenging conditions.

The Deputy National Secreatry of the Forum of NYCN State chairmen further expressed heartfelt sympathy to families of fallen heroes, assuring them that the nation remains eternally grateful for their sacrifice.

In the same vein, Sagboje commended the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his massive support and sustained encouragement of young Deltans to enlist in the Nigerian military, describing the gesture as a strategic investment in youth empowerment and national security.
According to him, the governor’s proactive stance has not only opened opportunities for young people to serve their fatherland with honour but has also reinforced discipline, patriotism and a sense of purpose among the youth population in the state.

He called on Nigerian youths to draw inspiration from the values exemplified by the armed forces and urged them to embrace patriotism, unity and peaceful coexistence, while rejecting violence and all forms of social vices.

Sagboje reaffirmed the commitment of the NYCN Delta State Council to youth sensitisation, value re-orientation, peacebuilding and nation-building initiatives, while praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of all fallen heroes and a safer, more united Nigeria.
