Ese Gam’s Leadership Worst In UPU History — Urhobo Elites Forum Alleges, Kicks Against His Re-election.
An advocate and activist group in Urhobo Nation, Urhobo Elites Forum, has called on all Urhobo monarchs, leaders of thought, and the Delta State Government not to allow the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) collapse under the leadership of its current President-General, Barr. Ese Gam.
The group described Barr. Gam’s tenure as “one of the poorest and most laughable” in the history of the UPU, alleging that his administration has failed to live up to the ideals of the founding fathers of the Union.
In a statement issued and signed by its leaders Multiple Chief Freeborn Ayoma (Otota of Iwhrekreka and CEO of Isio Nig. Ltd), Double Chief Harvest Waka, Double Chief Believe Messiah, Double Chief Clement Waka, and Chief Lucky Ejeimi the forum maintained that Barr. Gam should not recontest in the forthcoming UPU election, stressing that he did not even merit a first term, let alone a second.
According to the group’s spokesman, Multiple Chief Freeborn Ayoma, Barr. Gam has no visible achievements or developmental projects to show for his tenure as President-General, making it difficult to justify his leadership over a great ethnic nation like the Urhobo, which is the fifth largest tribe in Nigeria.
Chief Ayoma further noted that the Urhobo Elites Forum is already searching for a reliable, credible, trustworthy, and technocratic leader who can reposition the UPU and restore its lost dignity, rather than a “political tool” as they described the current leadership.
The forum vowed that if Barr. Ese Gam insists on contesting for another term, it will seek redress in court to prevent what it termed a “disgraceful continuation of failed leadership.”
“We cannot watch the UPU the pride and voice of the Urhobo people become a laughingstock under this administration,” Ayoma said.
The group, therefore, appealed to all Urhobo monarchs, opinion leaders, and well-meaning sons and daughters of Urhobo Nation to rise in defense of the UPU and ensure that credible leadership emerges in the forthcoming election.
