President of the apex Ijaw sociocultural group, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) Worldwide, Prof. Benjamin Ogele Okaba has disowned reports making round that the Ijaw nation have selected a sole aspirant ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship primary in Delta State following the Ijaw quest to produce the next Governor of the state come 2023 among the three Ijaw aspirants.
President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) disowned the report in a telephone conversation with The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide, stressing that leaders are working round the clock to see that the Ijaw aspirants talk to themselves, adding that there is a committee to that effect as well.
Prof. Okaba particularly charged sons and daughters of Ijaw nation, Deltans as well as members of the general public to completely disregard the news, adding that Ijaw nation is yet to take a position on the matter.
However, he also warned media practitioners not to quote him out of context, stressing that while debunking the said news, he did use any insultive words to prove his point.
He continued that it will be the responsibility of him as the President of Ijaw nation to make such announcement whenever the committee report is ready and such announcement will be done after due consultation with relevant critical stakeholders in the polity.
Speaking further, Prof. Okaba had urged all sons and daughters of Ijaw nation to remain calm as congress and other critical stakeholders are working to ensure that come 2023, an Ijaw man becomes the Governor of Delta State.
“It is pertinent to say that the Ijaw Nation has not made a position yet and will do so when it is appropriate. I want to further state that it is the duty of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) to make declarations on behalf of the Ijaw Nation and not any individual.” Prof. Okaba stated.
Meanwhile, on his part, Dr. Comr. Doubra Collins Okotete, Chairman Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone have also hinted The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide that it was not true that the Ijaw nation have settled for one particular aspirant among the three contestants from Ijaw.
Okotete noted that there was actually a meeting held at Alaowei Broderick Bozimor’s residence in Warri recently by critical stakeholders of Ijaw nation but stated that there was no conclusion on a sole aspirant for the Ijaws in the meeting.
